I believe that push ups are probably the best exercises that you can do. If you don't have any equipment, are bound by space and don't have much time, doing a variety of push ups can prove to be a great workout. A push doesn't just work you chest and arms, it works you shoulders, uses your back for support, works the core and the butt as well. If you are not really sure how, here is how to do a proper push up along with some variations that will give you an excellent upper body workout.
Start with the position shown above. Make sure your back is straight, arms are shoulder width apart and your feet are together.
Go down in one control movement, pause for a bit and come back up. Below are some hand positions that you can try to zero in on the region you want to concentrate on.
Wide position, for the outer chest
Narrow for the inner part of the chest, or the center as some people call it.
This is an enhancement to the narrow position, but this concentrates more on the triceps than the chest.
So, summarizing once again. Push ups are a great exercise and should be a part of ever chest workout.
